Application

CNO for Soap & Oleochemicals

Crude Coconut Oil (CNO) is the foundational raw material for the global oleochemical and soap manufacturing industries. Extracted directly from dried copra, it provides an unparalleled source of lauric acid for industrial applications.

1. Exceptionally High Lauric Acid

Containing nearly 50% lauric acid (C12:0), CNO is highly valued in saponification. It is the secret behind the hard texture, rapid solubility, and rich, fluffy lather found in premium bar soaps and cleansing agents.

2. Base for Surfactants

In the oleochemical industry, CNO is fractionated and processed into fatty alcohols and fatty acids. These become the core building blocks for surfactants like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), widely used in shampoos and detergents.

3. Cost-Effective Raw Material

Because it is unrefined, CNO is the most cost-effective form of coconut oil. The natural strong odor, dark color, and higher Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content are easily neutralized during your factory's saponification or chemical refining processes.

The Extraction Profile

Our Crude Coconut Oil is mechanically expeller-pressed from properly dried coconut meat (copra). While it is not suitable for direct human consumption due to its raw state, its lipid profile remains completely intact and highly potent for chemical engineering.

The presence of Free Fatty Acids (FFA) is normal and expected in CNO. We carefully manage our copra sourcing and drying processes to keep the FFA strictly within the industrial standard of 3% to 4%, ensuring maximum yield for your refinery.

  • Unrefined State: Retains its natural dark yellow/brown color and roasted coconut odor.
  • High Saponification Value: Typically between 250 - 264 mg KOH/g, making it highly reactive for soap making.
  • Steady Supply: Sourced from extensive Indonesian plantations for year-round availability.

Target CNO Specifications

  • Free Fatty Acid (FFA): Max 4% (as Lauric Acid)
  • Moisture & Impurities: Max 1%
  • Iodine Value: 7 - 11
  • Saponification Value: 250 - 264
  • Color: Dark Yellow / Brownish

Comparing Industrial Base Oils

Feature Crude Coconut Oil (CNO) Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) Tallow (Animal Fat)
Lauric Acid Content High (~45% - 50%) High (~45% - 48%) Zero (Oleic/Palmitic based)
Lather & Cleansing in Soap Excellent (Rich, fluffy bubbles) Good Poor (Creates creamy, low lather)
Hardness of Soap Bar Very Hard Hard Hard
Source Origin Plant-based (Vegan friendly) Plant-based Animal byproduct

While PKO is a common substitute, Coconut Oil remains the gold standard for producing premium, vegan-friendly soaps with superior cleansing and lathering characteristics.

Key Industry Applications

  • Soap Manufacturing: The essential fat for cold-process and commercially milled bath soaps, providing hardness and lather.
  • Surfactants & Detergents: Processed into fatty alcohols to create SLS and SLES for shampoos, body washes, and laundry liquids.
  • Biofuels: Used as a renewable feedstock for producing high-grade biodiesel in sustainable energy sectors.
  • Further Refining: Purchased by large refineries to be processed into food-grade RBD Coconut Oil.

Bulk Logistics & Handling

CNO is an industrial commodity that requires robust logistics. We offer customized packaging to match your facility's receiving capabilities.

  • 21 MT Flexitanks: The most cost-effective method for large refineries. A giant, single-use bladder inside a 20ft container (equipped with heating pads for liquefaction at destination).
  • 190kg Steel Drums: Standard packaging for mid-sized soap manufacturers. Drums can be easily stored and heated individually using drum band heaters.
  • IBC Totes: 900kg Intermediate Bulk Containers for easy forklift handling and factory integration.

Commercial Perspective

Securing a reliable supply of CNO is critical for oleochemical plants to maintain continuous production. Fluctuations in copra quality or supply chain disruptions can bring a refinery to a halt. By partnering directly with Indonesian mills, we ensure a consistent volume of high-quality CNO that meets strict FFA limits, minimizing your refining loss and maximizing chemical yield.

We routinely supply:

  • Industrial soap and detergent manufacturers
  • Global oleochemical refineries
  • Cosmetic ingredient formulators
  • Biofuel production facilities
